Sporting Clay Shoot Fuels Southwest Wichita Falls Projects

If you ask the 26 members of the Rotary Club of Southwest Wichita Falls how they do so much for their community and around the world, you may just hear that they have "a shootin' good time" raising money for great causes. The club embarked on an annual Sporting Clay Shoot in 2008, and over three years has netted almost $50,000 to augment funds raised through their traditional flag display program and hamburger stand at the annual City Lights parade.

Funds are allocated by the club each year for local causes like YMCA youth programs, Camp Fire camperships, Meals on Wheels, the local food bank, the United Way back to school program, equipment to treat children at the local hospital, a job shadowing program in cooperation with area high schools, scholarships at Midwestern State University, the Youth Symphony Orchestra, and the club's adopted squadron at Sheppard Air Force Base.

International programs are also supported including Camp RYLA, Haiti relief, Rotary International Teacher Exchange, and the Honduras water filter program. And finally, the Rotary Foundation is not left out as the club awards Paul Harris Fellowships each year to two members who go above and beyond as Rotarians "We're very proud of what our shoot has allowed us to do to help at home and to participate in international programs," said Jerry Morgan, chair of the 2010 Sporting Clay Shoot. "This is a club full of great members, and we can count on everyone to pitch in."
